Isani is the district in the east part of Tbilisi. It is situated on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The district covers Avlabari, Vazisubani and Isani neighborhoods.

Isani is a historic district. The neighborhood was given the name by Arabians in the 9th century. Isani means fortress in Arabic, as they strengthened the surrounding area with a fence. In the 12-13th centuries, the King’s palace was located on the left bank of Mtkvari, next to Metekhi church that was considered to be Isani territory. Now this place is the part of Avlabari neighborhood.
