In 1979 Avchala, Mukhiani, Gldani, Gldanula, Small Gldani and New Gldani neighborhoods were united under the name of the Gldani district. The district covers 42.5 km. sq.
Gldani massive was built in the 1960s when Tbilisi was being inhabited intensively. It is divided into eight micro-districts. Currently, it is a huge, noisy district in the north part of Tbilisi.
